Expedition to Earth

The Lunar Colonies were barely self-sufficient when a devastating nuclear exchange between major powers on planet Earth wiped out all communications with terrestrial sites. Two hundred years have passed. All attempts to reestablish radio communications with Earth have been futile, but the Colonies have finally built up enough heavy industry to construct their own spaceships. Now, at long last, an expedition to the home planet is about to be launched.

This book is available for purchase on Amazon both as a paperback and an ebook.

The first chapter is also available in audio format on YouTube.

The Good, the Bad, and the Forgiven

Imagine a man who is a cross between a typical Southern Baptist minister and a typical Louis Lamour hero, and you’ll probably arrive at a pretty fair approximation of Eli Helmsman, the protagonist in this gritty but theologically infused western. Eli never went looking for violence, but he was bold to speak the truth as he saw it, and so sometimes violent men went looking for him . . . and more often than not, they ended up in boot hill.

This book is available for purchase on Amazon both as a paperback and an ebook, and an audio version is available on Audible.

A Cowboy in Modernopoli

Join a stereotypical cowboy and his canny sidekick for a rollicking adventure through the Modernopoli—a loose federation of city states where the premodern tendency to personify objects of worship has persisted into modern times. In Natropolis, every citizen knows that Random Chance is the only god and Darwin is his prophet. In Materiopolis, people put off their shoes from their feet because plush carpet is a sacred thing that must be kept holy and unblemished if they are to please their goddess, Norma. Dietopolis has become a war zone as heretical factions disregard the rulings of the Food Court. The people of Hygienopolis faithfully heed the holy Call to Shower five times every day. And in Vironopolis, the only honorable way to manipulate your environment is through a kind of telekinetic meditation called Viron-Mentalism.

All in all, this allegorical tall tale is perhaps best understood as a cross between Pilgrim's Progress and The Beverly Hillbillies: It spins a lighthearted and often satirically comical narrative about a clash of cultures, where a little cowboy common sense—and a good six-shooter—are generally enough to extricate the protagonists from the bizarre predicaments that tend to befall them in every idolatrous city-state. But beneath the lighthearted banter, it begs a serious question: Would I be found worshipping at any of the myriad altars in these cities? Has any of their idolatry taken root in my heart, or in my community?

Other Products

Idaho Pattern Bandannas

As demonstrated on the show, bandannas have any number of uses. Worn around the neck, they can keep your collar from chaffing. Worn around the face, they can help to filter sawdust out of your breathing space, or help to deflect powder burn from the pan flash of certain muzzleloaders. They can be used as a hankerchief or a bandage if needed. When Tim the Idahoan discovered that there was a special Texas pattern bandanna, but not an Idaho pattern, he decided to change that, and this was the result.

These bandannas are available for sale on ebay.

Rifling Buttons, Other Memorabilia, and Assorted Surplus

Occasionally various materials from the Idahoan Show come up for sale. These are most often sold on ebay through Atomic Rifling and Creative Operations LLC.

Workaround Worm Gear for WEN Band Saw

When the worm gear on my WEN model 3970T wore out (after only a couple years of light use) and I couldn't get a replacement, I ended up machining a replacement gear from scratch. This is the machining sketch I prepared for the new gear. Due to limited equipment, this may not be a proper worm gear, in the strict sense, but it proved close enough to get the saw operational again. I suspect that the WEN 3970T is mechanically identical to half a dozen other band saws that are all made in China and marketed under different brand names, so this gear would probably work in other saws as well.

Beta Pattern Muzzleloader Manual - ARCO LLC

This is the original user manual that was prepared for the beta pattern muzzleloaders Tim the Idahoan made for Atomic Rifling and Creative Operations LLC.

Plastic 350 Legend Magazine

This zip archive contains the STL files that were used to print a 5-round plastic magazine for .350 Legend, as discussed in episode TIS322. Note that this magazine requires a metal spring. The design was tested using a flat multi-v spring similar to the one made in episode TIS302, although shorter. The design works, but is quite fragile when printed from ordinary PLA or PETG.

Sabot 4538a

This sabot was designed to facilitate loading a 38 caliber (.355 to .357 inch diameter) bullet into a 45 caliber cartrige, such as 45 ACP or 45 LC. The design is still somewhat of a work in progress, but this version seemed to function reasonably well when printed from PETG.

STL file icon

Sabot 5038a

This sabot was designed to facilitate loading a 38 caliber (.355 to .357 inch diameter) bullet into a 50 caliber muzzleloader, as shown in episodes TIS385 and TIS387.

STL file icon

Sabot 5024a (Squirrel Load)

This sabot was designed to facilitate loading a #4 buckshot pellet (approx. 24 caliber) into a .50-caliber muzzleloader. With a 30-grain powder charge, this approximates the ballistics of a .22 long rifle from a .50-caliber muzzleloader, allowing it to be used for hunting small game, such as rabbits and squirrels, in addition to its normal use on big game.

50 Caliber Cleaning Wad

This cleaning wad is designed to be loaded between the powder and the projectile in a 50-caliber muzzleloader. When fired down the barrel, it should help prevent gasses from venting around the projectile, and its agressive jags scrape out some of the fouling from previous shots, reducing the build-up of fouling for improved consistency and shot to shot accuracy.

STL file icon

Muzzle Cap

This muzzle cap snaps over a mil-spec birdcage flash hider to keep snow, mud, and other dirt from getting into the muzzle and potentially causing bore obstructions, as demonstrated in episode TIS396.

Bottle Thread to Pipe Thread Adapter

This fitting screws onto a standard pop bottle and facilitates connection of other fittings with standard pipe threads. Note that the bottle threads are printed with the part, but the pipe threads will need to be cut after printing. Use a 1/4-inch NPT pipe tap, or an improvised 1/4-inch pipe tap as shown in episode TIS334. Also note that a size 117 O-ring needs to be added after printing to get a good seal to the bottle.
